2020 New England Regional
Singles Challenge Competitors


Erica Biner

Erica, 13, skates at the intermediate level. Having been a member of The Skating Club of Boston for over seven years, Erica qualified for the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge for a third year. She is in seventh grade at the Dexter Southfield School. Other than skating, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and reading. She has skated in Ice Chips since 2013.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stefania Blackwell

Stefania, 12, skates at the intermediate level. She competed in the last 3 New England Singles Challenges and has been a member of The Skating Club of Boston since she was 5. Last fall, she started skating with Theatre On Ice, and she absolutely loves the whole experience, especially the team aspect of TOI. Stefania is currently a seventh-grader at Thayer Academy enjoying trying different sports, including field hockey, basketball and track and field.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lucia Chin

Lucia, 11, skates at the juvenile level. A fifth-grader from Canton, Massachusetts, Lucia has been skating since she was 5 years old. She represented the Club at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge at the juvenile level. In addition, Luci is a member of the synchronized skating team, Team Excel, which competed in the 2020 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships. When not skating, Lucia loves to cook, draw and travel with her family.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Catherine Doucette

Catherine Doucette, from Newton MA, competed in her first New England Regional Singles Challenge this year at the juvenile level. The experience left her with a boost of confidence that has added to her love of skating. Catherine has been a member of The Skating Club of Boston since 2015 and in that time has made many friendships that she treasures dearly. When not skating, she enjoys playing lacrosse, dancing, the beach, camping, and traveling with her family.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Alara Ecemis

Alara, 12, represented the Club at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge at the juvenile level. Her love for skating began when she saw skaters at the Frog Pond when she was 3 years old. She was mesmerized watching the skaters perform at the tree lighting event and she asked to be put on skates.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Clara Gross

Clara is an 11th grade honors student at Newton North High School. She skates at the novice level and competed in her sixth New England Regional Singles Challenge this season. She serves as a co-chair for the Junior Activities Committee, teaches for the Skating Academy, is a mentor for the Overture of Boston Theatre On Ice team, and volunteers for the Therapeutic Skating program. Clara also enjoys baking, spending time with her family, friends, and her two Scottish terriers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ella Hahn

Ella is a fourth-grader at the Chestnut Hill School. She trains with Morgan Rowe-Woolf, Suna Murray, Sergey Minaev and Deidre Williams. She has been a member of The Skating Club of Boston for three years and started in the Learn to Skate program at age 4. She skates at the juvenile level and competed at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge. When not skating, Ella likes playing piano and violin and hanging out with her friends. She is also a member of the String Training Orchestra at the New England Conservatory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Molly Hammond

Molly has been skating since she was 6 years old. She competed at the 2020 New England Singles Challenge at the juvenile level. Molly is a member of the synchronized skating team, Team Excel, which competed in the 2020 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Molly’s favorite part about skating is hanging out with her friends and landing new jumps. In addition to skating, Molly competes with her school’s track team in the high jump and is also on the student council.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Molly Krupat

Molly is a sixth-grader at High Rock School in Needham. She competed in the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge at the juvenile level. She has been a member of the Club since 2017. Molly was the recipient of the Cecilia College award in 2018 and 2019. She has also been part of the Boston Theatre On Ice program for two years. Molly enjoys reading, playing soccer, making slime, cooking, and spending time with friends at the rink and school. Recently, Molly and her family found long lost buried treasure and were featured on Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chloe Man

Chloe is a ninth-grade honor roll student at Newton South High School. She competed in her third New England Regional Singles Challenge this year at the intermediate level. She is a member of Theatre On Ice novice team, Encore of Boston, which earned two gold medals at the 2019 Nation’s Cup in Epinal, France and the 2019 Theatre On Ice Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama. She is also a member of the Junior Activities Committee and is a teaching assistant at the Skating Academy. Besides skating, Chloe enjoys swimming and spending time with her family and friends.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Serina Ohyama

Serina is 12 years old and is a seventh-grader at the William H. Lincoln School in Brookline. She competes at the juvenile level and represented the Club at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge for the first time this season. Outside of skating, she likes to spend time with her friends and family, listen to music, play the guitar, and read books.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rebecca Orlando

Rebecca is 12 years old and competes at the juvenile level. She competed in her first qualifying competition last fall at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge. She is in sixth grade at the St Philip School. She is a member of Prelude of Boston, The Skating Club of Boston’s open level Theatre On Ice Team. When she’s not skating, Rebecca enjoys baking, hanging out with her friends and playing with her new puppy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sophia-Ray Richer

Sophia-Ray is a sixth-grader in her last year at Mount Alvernia Academy located in Chestnut Hill, MA. She represented the Club at the juvenile level in the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge. Sophia-Ray’s other interests and talents include music, singing and dancing and participating in school plays. She is a very creative person who is passionate about art and finds enjoyment and relaxation through painting, drawing, sewing, photography and fashion projects. Sophia-Ray also plays the trumpet. She is also excited about the upcoming summer when the new Norwood facility for The Skating Club of Boston opens, and when she can spend time at the beach.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Keiko Shafton

Keiko is a 15-year old freshman student at North Quincy High School. She competed in the Intermediate event at the 2020 New England Singles Challenge Competition. Keiko started skating at the age of seven at Quincy Youth Hockey Rink, then years later joined The Skating Club of Boston at the end of 2018. This season she hopes to compete at more competitions and improve herself throughout the season. She skates 6 times a week, alternating between mornings and afternoons. When she is not skating, she likes to spend time with friends and family, take walks on the beach, and bake.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jessica Tao

Jessica is an 11-year-old in the sixth grade at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Brookline, Massachusetts. She competed at the juvenile level at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge. Jessica has been a member of The Skating Club of Boston since 2014. When she is not skating, Jessica enjoys drawing, music, reading, math, and spending time with family and friends.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lilly Wallingford

Lilly is a 10th grade student at Cohasset High School. She has been a member of The Skating Club of Boston for five years. This past fall, Lilly competed at the intermediate level as part of the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge. Lilly is a Co-Chair of The Junior Activities Committee and enjoys teaching as part of The Skating Club of Boston’s Therapeutic Skating program. When she is not skating, Lilly enjoys listening to music, spending time with friends and playing on the Cohasset High School Varsity Golf Team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Summer Wu

Summer joined The Skating Club of Boston in 2019. She started her skating training in Beijing, China at age 7. She is now a fourth-grader at Jackson School in Newton. She competed for the first time this year at the 2020 New England Regional Singles Challenge at the juvenile level. Besides skating, in her limited spare time she also enjoys reading, traveling, crafting, playing with her cousins and making friends.
